THE ANGLO-MYSORE WARS

The Anglo - Mysore War-I (1767 – 1769)
East India Company tried to occupy Mysore completely. Hyder Ali and with French Army fought with British Army at Trincomalai, but were DEFEATED. Again Hyder fought with British regaining power. This time also he was defeated by British army. Both parties concluded to hand over their belonging areas. They met with a peace “Treaty of Madras”.

 Results:- 
  • Hyder Ali was defeated
  • They returned back conquered areas.
  • The Treaty of Madras signed.
The Anglo – Mysore War-II (1780 – 1784)
Due to the failure of Treaty of Madras, the war broke between them again in 1780. He attacked English army with his 80,000 soldiers.In the long battle, Hyder Ali.His son, Tippu Sulthan continued to finght against British Rulers.

Results:-
  • Hyder Ali was again defeated by British Army.
  • In the middle of the battle, Hyder died due to CANCER.
  • Tippu signed “Treaty of Mangalore.”

 The Anglo – Mysore War-III (1786 – 1793)
Lord Coron Wallis, governor general decided to finish the power of Tippu Sulthan. Tippu fought in a heroic manner, but was defeated.

Results:-
  • Tippu army fought with British army
  • His heroic fight brought no victory to Tippu.
  • Tippu signed “Treaty of Srirangapatnam.”

The Anglo – Mysore War-IV (1799)
War broke again between Tippu Sulthan and Lord Wellesly. Tippu Sulthan was defeated, seriously wounded and died. With this war, it came to an end and English became the masters of Mysore.

Results:-
  • Tippu Sulthan fought with British
  • He was deated
  • Died in the battle field.
  • End of Mysore wars.

THE BATTLE OF BUXAR, 1764


THE BATTLE OF BUXAR
(22nd October, 1764)

Mir Qasim shifted his capital to Monghyr. He took a drastic step by replacing Indian Marchants in the place of English. They decided to overthrow him. War broke between Mir Qasim and Company in 1763. He escaped to Oudh, took the help of SHUJA-ud-DAULA, Nawab of Oudh, Shah Alam-II. War broke between Mir Qasim and Englishmen. All the three parties were defeated by English headed by Major Munro on 22nd October, 1764.  

Results:-
  • Mir Qasim, Nawab, Shah Alam-II were together defeated by the British.
  • Treaty of Allahabad (16th August, 1765)
  • British became the masters of war.
  • Robert Clive was appointed as Governor General of Bengal and Deccan. 

THE BATTLE OF PLASSEY, 1757


THE BATTLE OF PLASSEY
(23rd June, 1757)

On Aliverdhi Khan’s death in 1756, SIRAJ-UD-DAULA, his grandson became nawab of Bengal at 24. Siraj prohibited and captured Fort William and 146 Englishmen, threw them in a small hole on 20th June, 1756, 123 died, ‘Black Hole Tragedy’, Robert Clive conspired with Mir Jafar,( Commander of Siraj) & Manik Chand, Jagath Set, Omchand, killed by MIRAN, (son of  Mir Jafar).  

 Mir Jafar, (as promised by Robert Clive), became puppet ruler of Bengal.  8,00,000 pounds, 24 Parganas and 2,34,000 pounds given to Clive. Mir Jafar resigned unable to satisfy the demands of English. His son-in-law, Mir Qasim succeeded him, but he too resigned unable to satisfy the demands of British.

Results:-
  • Siraj-ud-daula, Nawab of Bengal, was defeated at Plassey by British Commander, Robert Clive and killed by Miran, the son of Mir Jafar.
  • This battle had paved the way for the foundation of the English Rule in India.

THE CARNATIC WARS


Carnatic War-I (1746 – 1748)
The conflict between European trading companies reached to final stage. At the exit of Dutch, Danes & Portuguese, French and English were involved in series of battles. The Nawab of Arcot, ANWERUDDIN with the help of French army fought with British army. British army defeated Anwer and French….and brought MADRA under their control.

Results:-
  • Nawab of Arcot and French were defeated by British Army in this battle.
  • It demonstrated the importance of Naval power. Made Madras under their control.

Carnatic War-II (1748 – 1754)
Subedar of Deccan i.e, Nizam of Hyderabad, Nizam-ul-mulk, ASAF JAH died due to war b/w his 2nd son, Nasir Jang & grandson, Muzaffar Jang. Nasir Jang and Anwaruddin joined English….and…..Muzaffar Jang and Chanda Sahib joined under French support. This led to the war. Muzaffar was killed by his own people. Salabat Jang became Deccan Subedar. Robert Clive defeated French army headed by Dupleix.

Results:-
  • War broke between French and English.
  • Commander of English, Robert Clive defeated French army.
  • Muhammad Ali became Nawab of Carnatic.

Carnatic War-III (1756 – 1763)
It was the echo of 7 years of war broke between French and English in Europe. English army headed by Sir Eyre Coote defeated French  severely in “The Battle of Wandiwash 1760”. This war ended with the Treaty of Paris. France lost its power in India permanently.

Results:-
  • The last war broke between France and English.
  • Sir Eyre Coote defeated French army headed by Dupleix.
  • English became victorious.
